Manager of Auckland Deaf Society

Are you an experienced leader with proven skills in governance, driving strategy development, and managing operations and financial performance?

We’re looking for someone to oversee Auckland Deaf Society. You’d be responsible for leading our strategic vision for the local community of Deaf people and New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) users. You’d achieve this through steering opportunities that engage and strengthen this community, and promoting and preserving one of New Zealand’s official languages, NZSL. Our office is based in Auckland.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Ability to apply visionary thinking to community programme development, commercial opportunities, fundraising and organisational development.

Key requirements include:

  • A personal philosophy and business ethic that is compatible with the mission and values of Auckland Deaf Society.
  • Proficiency in or willingness to learn New Zealand Sign Language and Deaf culture.
  • Ability to lead, coach and motivate skilled professional staff and grow a team culture.
  • Ability to apply best business and leadership practices to the management of the organisation.
  • Ability to make sound business judgements based on information at hand and appropriate assumptions and business models.
  • Rigorous analytical abilities and creative problem solving skills.
  • The right to work in New Zealand.
  • A post-graduate degree or evidence of continued professional development.

JOB TITLE: Bar / Kitchen Staff

LOCATION: Auckland Deaf Society

MAIN PURPOSE: To effectively work with the duty manager and events and marketing manager to deliver Auckland Deaf Society’s clubroom bar and kitchen services, for the benefit of all members and visitors.

You will need to be available on Friday nights and weekends and have your own transport.

Full training will be given and there is potential for promotion.

We are a really supportive and fun team. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable work experience and we welcome applications from people with no previous experience.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Quality of Bar & Kitchen Service

  • To satisfy all customer requirements by ensuring Auckland Deaf Society’s Bar and Kitchen service is constantly maintained at a consistently high standard
  • To maintain a high standard with regard to all aspects of work including punctuality, attendance, attitude, customer service and hygiene.

People Management

  • Responsibility for the selling of liquor to appropriate customers, knowledge of host responsibilities and legal requirements and providing an outstanding level of customer service at all times.
  • Bar and kitchen productivity
  • Ensure all products sold by the Bar are being charged for correctly.
  • Maintain ADS cash handling procedures and cashing up procedures at all times
  • Manage customer and patron relationships with skill and tact.
  • Maintain effective communication with the duty manager, marketing and events manager and other team members and act in a professional manner while on duty.
  • Maintain ADS stock control and inventory procedures
  • Develop and maintain sound knowledge of relevant legislation regarding the sale of alcohol and food hygiene and safety
  • Strive to constantly improve the standards of service and hygiene at the bar and kitchen
  • Attend all staff training events as required
  • Report any concerns or discrepancies to the duty manager and/or the Marketing and Events manager supervisor immediately
