Hello ADS members During the month of August we had were pleased to see overseas visitors come to the Auckland Deaf Society Clubroom, six Deaf people from England and two from Germany. Wonderful to share stories jokes and information with these international guests. Many people enjoyed the Winter Quiz. It was exciting to see the points of the results in the powerpoint and good to see the close points between 3 teams that raced to the finish which was ultimately won by ‘Half and Half’ a team consisting of our very own Manger Roger Wyrill , Brent Ryder, Sally Paul and from our ADS office Trisha Shanaghan. It was another successful event and the proceeds of the fundraising will go towards this year’s New Zealand Deaf Games in Auckland on Labour Weekend. Just a reminder too, it will be the 50th annual New Zealand Deaf Games. Auckland Deaf Youth are organizing the Wallace William Comedy Night for the 18th September 2010. Please buy your tickets now so you don’t miss out. See Julie-Anne at the office during the week or approach the youth group at Deaf Club to purchase the tickets. Come on and don’t be shy to perform. I’m the president and I too will be joining in on the fun and drama. I would dearly like to acknowledge ADS Life member’s Ngaire Doherty and Owen Gibbons, both have been hard working people for helping and volunteering around the ADS. Ngaire has for many years worked in the ADS kitchen making sure it is clean after the weekend events and so kind of her to take all the kitchen and the bar tea towels home for washing and then returning them to the ADS all fresh and clean. She made the decision to step down due to her health. Owen has spent many hours also volunteering in general maintenance around the ADS building and always with a smile and a joke to say. We and ADS office staff will sorely miss you both popping in to be of help but we look forward to seeing you both in and around the social events relaxing with a drink and enjoying yourselves. A special thanks to Norman Norris and his working bees group, Danny Brady, Alfred Powell and Barry Kinnard for volunteering time to tidy up the walls and painting in the ADS clubroom. The walls now look good and fresh. I will owe all you guys a free drink on Friday night. We would like to congratulate Susan Hamilton who came third in the ladies individual of 15 women for 8th World Deaf Golf Championship. We are proud of you Susan. Hand waves. Regards John Schischka President of ADS EDITOR’S CORRECTION My apologies for printing the wrong information in last month’s issue. Here is the updated detail about Ray Whiting’s grand-children. He has got 14 Grandchildren (NOT 21 Great grandchildren), 12 Great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter (NOT great great grandson).
