for Families

The Sign Language Hub wishes to invite all families who would like to use New Zealand Sign Language to improve the way their family communicates to participate in a FREE 24 Week Course of New Zealand Sign Language for Families.

Maybe you have a family member who is Deaf or perhaps you would simply like to explore this beautiful and unique visual language in a family friendly way.

  • Meet other Deaf adults.
  • Get support in learning New Zealand Sign Language at home.
  • Learn about practical games and resources to use with your child.

We welcome Deaf children with hearing aids and cochlear implants as well as children who use spoken language.

Current research suggests that learning more than one language benefits children and learning Sign Language does not negatively impact spoken language acquisition.

The whole family is welcome to come to this course, including brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins because extended family matters!
